When a brand sends you a paddle to test, I always hope it lives up to the hype they emailed me about.. In the case of the TMPR Nimbus Pickleball Paddle, I can say it came pretty darn close to hype the claimed—especially if you’re a player who really likes precision, control, and finesse.
Over the past few months, I’ve been putting the TMPR Nimbus through its paces—doubles, singles, drills, and more. TMPR Pickleball Paddles, a Michigan-based company, also sent over a pack of their balls (more on those later).
So, how does the 16mm thermoformed paddle from TMPR Pickleball stack up?
Let’s dive into the full review of the TMPR Nimbus Pickleball Paddle.
TMPR Nimbus Pickleball Paddle Review:

First Look: Sleek Design Meets Smart Construction
Straight out of the box, the Nimbus looks and feels premium. It has a clean, modern look—sharp lines, a matte finish, and a nice paddle shape. And wow does it feel gritty!
The Nimbus features TMPR’s proprietary Cloud Weave™ face, a textured composite surface that’s designed to optimize spin and ball feel. It’s paired with a 16mm thick polypropylene honeycomb core and dual foam perimeter walls, which TMPR says enhances comfort, sweet spot consistency, and paddle stability.

On-Court Performance

🎯 Control – 9/10
This is where the Nimbus really shines. From the first game, I felt totally in sync with my drops, resets, and dinks. The 16mm core has that nice, absorbing feel that helps slow the game down (which I love), especially against fast-paced opponents.
During a rec night, I found myself in a lot of speedups at the kitchen, and the Nimbus was a real asset. I could take pace off the ball without losing control, keeping things low and tight. For players who value precision and placement, this paddle delivers in a big way.
🔁 Spin – 8.5/10
The Cloud Weave™ surface is the real deal. The feel is super gritty and the texture clearly grabs the ball. I was consistently getting solid topspin on my drives and could add real movement on serve returns.
On one particular point, I hit a wide angle topspin forehand that curved just out of reach—one of those satisfying shots that reminds you just how fun spin can be. The Nimbus gave me confidence to shape shots, not just hit straight lines.
💥 Power – 6.5/10
Here’s the one place the Nimbus left me wanting a little more. While TMPR promotes this paddle as a “balance of power and control,” I’d say it leans heavily toward control. There’s just not that explosive pop you get with some raw carbon fiber paddles or thermoformed 13mm builds.
It’s not that it’s underpowered—it just takes more effort to generate pace. If you have a fast swing or naturally generate power, you’ll be fine. But if you rely on your paddle to do the heavy lifting on drives and putaways, you may notice the difference.
🧊 Stability & Sweet Spot – 8/10
Thanks to the dual foam perimeter and thicker core, the Nimbus has great stability and forgiveness. Off-center hits stayed in play more often than not. I could feel the paddle absorbing impact and keeping the ball on target even when I didn’t strike it perfectly.
For players who struggle with consistency or who like a paddle that forgives small mishits, the Nimbus checks the box.
Build Quality & Craftsmanship

Everything about this paddle looks and screams quality. The edge guard is snug, the paddle feels well-balanced, and nothing about it feels mass-produced. That’s no surprise—TMPR manufactures their paddles in the USA, and you can tell they take pride in the details. And of course, this paddle is USAP Approved.
The Cloud Weave™ face is also impressively durable. After a couple dozen games, there’s almost no wear visible. And while I haven’t dropped it (yet), the frame feels sturdy enough to handle some abuse.
What About the Balls?

TMPR was kind enough to include a few of their branded pickleballs with the Nimbus, and I actually liked them a lot. They’re bright, durable, and tracked really well in outdoor play.
We played a windy morning doubles game, and the balls held their line well. They bounced true and didn’t get squishy or soft like some cheaper brands tend to do after a few games.
If you’re stocking up for outdoor rec play or casual tournaments, these balls are a solid option.
Who Should Use the TMPR Nimbus?
The TMPR Nimbus is ideal for:
- Control players who love resets, dinks, and soft hands
- Intermediate to advanced players who generate their own power
- Doubles specialists who live in the kitchen
- Spin artists who want shape and placement over brute force
This paddle isn’t for:
- Players who want maximum power or explosive pop
- Beginners looking for a paddle to help “launch” the ball
- Players who rely heavily on paddle-assisted offense
Final Verdict: A Paddle for the Precise Player

The TMPR Nimbus Pickleball Paddle is a paddle built for feel, not flash. It rewards thoughtful, skillful play with excellent touch, soft hands, and impressive spin capabilities. While it may not pack the punch of some raw carbon rockets on the market, it more than makes up for it with consistency, craftsmanship, and comfort.
And hey—TMPR is doing it right. They’re an American company making high-end paddles with their own tech, not just copying trends. I respect that. Plus, they were kind enough to let me test it and send gear my way—can’t beat that kind of support from a brand.
If you’re in the market for a new paddle and want something that feels stable, intentional, and smooth, give the Nimbus a shot. Especially if your game is more about control than chaos.
Final Rating: 8.3/10
A beautifully built paddle that rewards smart, soft play. Add some pop, and it would be a game-changer.
